Shopping for one of the best pram cup holders should be at the top of your maternity leave hit list.

Obviously, stocking up on the best changing bag, best breast pads, best baby carrier, best maternity leggings and plenty of maternity wear for your hospital bag is essential but ensuring you have a good pram cup holder will make your maternity leave a breeze.

Every new parent knows just how exhausting having a baby can be (that could be the understatement of the year), so you're likely to be fuelled by caffeine. Every new parent also knows that you'll spend a lot of time pushing your child around in their pram, so a sturdy pram cup holder is an absolute necessity for staying caffeinated and hydrated on the go.

Even if you don't drink coffee (we salute you!), you're likely to need a pram cup holder to house a bottle of water or your toddler’s sippy cup when you're out and about. But with so many options out there, which one should you invest in? Luckily we've taken the best pram cup holders for a spin to determine which one is ideal for you.

From the best pram cup holder for easy fastening to the best pram cup holder for larger bottles, we've tested them so you don't have to.

How we tested the best pram cup holders

We tried out the best pram cup holders on two different buggies - the Bugaboo Fox 2 and the Babyzen YoYo. Most of the pram cup holders we've tested are universal and will work on most buggies but some of them are specific to one buggy (like the perennially popular Babyzen YoYo). We tried them out with a reusable coffee cup, a child's sippy cup and a Costa takeaway coffee cup.

We tested each pram cup holder for just how easy they were to attach in a rush (because let's face it, no parent has time on their side), and how each drinking vessel fit inside. We also took our buggies over some seriously rough terrain to see how secure our drink was inside, how durable the cup holder seemed, and the flexibility in terms of attaching at an angle.

    1. Best pram cup holder overallLittleLife Buggy And Pushchair Universal Cup Holder£13.99 at LittleLife

Best for: Anyone and everyone - it's our best pram cup holder overall

Why we love it: LittleLife is a renowned brand known for creating kidswear and accessories that fare excellently in the great outdoors so we had high hopes - and weren't disappointed. Firstly, this pram cup holder is super easy to install, which immediately makes life easier for busy parents - you literally just clamp it on by loosing the screws and adjusting it to your desired angle and go. When we took our buggy over some bumpy terrain on the Common, it fared well thanks to the secure prong-style design of the holder, which creates a sturdy and snug vessel holder. It's super sturdy (that'll be the ABS plastic design) and held a 1L metal water bottle and takeaway coffee cup well. It's worth noting that whilst this is a great universal holder (the clamp is able to fit pushchair frames of between 20mm and 45mm in diameter), it won't fit frames wider than 45mm so it's worthing checking before you buy.

    2. Best value pram cup holderMothercare Cup Holder£8 at Boots

Best for: Those on a budget

Why we love it: We can only imagine how much you spent on your buggy, so if you're looking to make savings elsewhere, this is the pram cup holder for you. At £8, it's one of the cheapest pram cup holders on the market but it seems, sadly, you get what you pay for. We found this to be quite complicated to fix onto our prams; it required perusing a long set of instructions to figure out the different settings. It comes with five parts and you have to work out which size strap best suits your needs; theres's a shorter one for strollers and a longer one for standard pushchairs. If you're not a dab-hand with DIY, you might find threading and tightening the strap yourself quite tricky. At 10cm wide, it's pretty bulky and other reviewers noted that theirs ‘took a bashing’ due to its cumbersome design. But it does hold a variety of vessel sizes so it's ideal for larger water bottles and it did keep drinks sturdy.

    Best for: Design

Why we love it: If you live in a flat and are navigating narrow corridors, or live in the city and use a lot of public transport, this is the pram cup holder for you. It's chic and slim in design, and clips on to any Mamas & Papas pram easily. Sadly if you have a different pram brand, it may not be compatible so it's worth checking. The width dimensions of this pram cup holder are also the smallest of our round-up, so you won't fit a larger bottle in.

    4. Best pram cup holder for organisationGusieapue Universal Pushchair/Pram Cup Holder£9.99 at Amazon

Best for: Organising your belongings (read: your phone)

Why we love it: I honestly can't remember the last time I used a handbag. Rather than lugging around my Goyard, I prefer to throw my keys, purse and phone into my buggy or pockets every time I leave the house. That's why I'm obsessed with this pram cup holder that doubles as a phone holder, too. It's compatible with most major strollers from Uppababy, Doona an Nuna and its inner container has soft silicone petals to help hold your drink in place without splling. The opening edge can accommodate cups with handles, such as straw cups, baby bottles with handles and coffee cups, which is useful. It also has a great anti-slip design with rubber pads to help lock the cup holder on the rod without moving, making it one of the more secure and sturdy of the cup holders we tried. Some reviewers noted that it didn't fit onto their thicker handled buggies so it's worth checking if yours is compatible before purchasing.

Best for: Keeping drinks secure when you're on the go

Why we love it: There's nothing worse than spilt coffee, is there? Especially when every drop is precious in those early, sleep-deprived days. Thankfully, the Skip Hop Stroll and Connect Universal Cup Holder keeps your beverages locked in and contained. A flexible silicone design complete with interior tabs keeps all manner of vessels in a stable position. You can also choose between two fittings: on the handlebar or on the pushchair frame, which makes it stand out from the other cup holders we tested. It's super wide (11cm) so can accommodate large drinks and it's also rather easy on the eye so gets extra kudos for its style credentials.

    6. Best pram cup holder for keeping drinks warmMy Buggy Buddy Drink Pocket£10.50 at Amazon

    Best for: Insulation

Why we love it: I said there's nothing worse than spilt coffee. I was wrong: cold coffee is worse. That's why everyone should invest in an insulated pram cup holder like this one, which can keep coffee and tea hot and water cold. Ideal for winter or summer, it's pretty genius. Unlike the other pram cup holders that require clamping or screwing to fix on, this one attaches using Velcro. Obviously this makes fixing it on much easier but it isn't the most secure of holders as a result so didn't fare well over bumpy terrain. The benefit of being made from fabric? It's easy and less bulky to store when you're not using it.

    7. Best pram cup holder for functionality BundlePro Pram Cup Holders£13.99 at Amazon

    Best for: Its 360 functionality

Why we love it: The best thing about this pram cup holder is its 360-Degree Rotation, meaning it can adjust on any angle. It’s compatible with most strollers and is lightweight, not as bulky as others we've tried and easy to attach on either the front or side bars of a stroller. This pack comes with two holders and lots of Amazon reviewers said they use one for their coffee and the other for their toddler's water cup - ideal.

    8. Best pram cup holder for easy attachmentBugaboo Cup Holder£24.95 at Boots

    Best for: Ease of use

Why we love it: This pram cup holder is only compatible with Bugaboo prams but as one of the most popular brands, it's worth a spot in our round-up. We love how quick and easy it is to snap this cup holder onto the side of our pram. Have a Chameleon or Donkey stroller? Not to worry. This purchase includes three adapters that quickly snap on to the stroller, making the cup holder compatible with all Bugaboo strollers. The main issue we found (and so did online reviewers), is that your cup ideally needs to be half full to avoid spillages. Our full coffee seeped out when we took this for a spin over countryside terrain. On the plus side, the simple design made it incredibly easy to clean.

    9. Best pram cup holder for attachment style BABYZEN YOYO Cup Holder£30 at John Lewis

Best for: Varied positions on your pram

Why we love it: Again, this pram cup holder is specific to YoYo buggies but as one of the most popular prams for city and travel, we had to include it. The best part about this holder is the fact that it comes with a ‘shape memory’ hook specifically designed to attach to six different points on the stroller frame so you can move it around the pram depending on where you're using it. It's on the pricey side but has the best reviews on Amazon (4.7 out of 5) where users say it's incredibly sturdy.

    Happy caffeinating!
